Changes are coming in Peruvian football. According to the title of University of Sports, the president is the Peruvian Football Association (FPF), Agustín Lozano, proposed that from next season the national competition will no longer be organized by the Professional Football League, but by an autonomous and independent tournament and managed by the local clubs themselves.
The proposal presented to the Board this Monday, November 14th, achieved the necessary consensus and the teams will be responsible for managing the respective tournaments First Division, Second Division, Women’s League and Reserve Tournament for the 2024 season.
In addition, according to information from RPP Noticias, the commission that will be formed to control Liga 1 2024 will consist of seven clubs, notably Alianza Lima, Sporting Cristal, Alianza Atlético, Sport Huancayo and Cusco FC for the league. 1; while Alianza Universidad and Deportivo Coopsol are the Liga 2 representatives.
It should be noted that this new commission, composed of the above-mentioned clubs, not only organizes the tournaments in question, but also subsequently manages the resources of the television rights for the championships.
As already mentioned, the Professional Football League was responsible for the realization of the first division of Peruvian football in 2019 and 2023.
How many teams will take part in League 1 2024 and who are they?
Liga 1 2024 begins on January 26 and will consist of 18 teams, including Los Chankas and Comerciantes Unidos, clubs that achieved promotion on sporting merit.
