Only four teams remain in the running for the championship title in the 2023 Liga MX Clausura tournament. This Sunday, UANL Tigers and Chivas de Guadalajara became the last two semifinalists of the competition after eliminating Toluca and Atlas respectively. The most striking thing about the classification of both teams was that the league format brought them together with their main rivals in search of a place in the finals: Monterrey and América.
The cat team had a scare losing 3-1 in the second leg of the quarterfinals, but at the end of the stage they clinched a 4-1 win in the first leg and progressed with a better aggregate result. Now they meet Rayados in what is probably the most anticipated installment of the royal classic in years.
El Rebaño Sagrado, for their part, clinched a narrow 1-0 win over the Foxes that allowed them to continue in the race despite going 1-1 on aggregate for top spot in the regular season. Against the Eagles, they will star in a high-profile national classic in their quest to win the trophy again.
