Lightning: Huge contract extension for Brandon Hagel

Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois, wanting to avoid a salary negotiation with forward Brandon Hagel in the summer of 2024, on Tuesday granted him an eight-year contract extension worth an average of $6.5 million a year.

As such, next season the 24-year-old hockey player will complete the three-year, $4.5 million contract he signed with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2021.

Hagel was acquired on March 18, 2022 and had personal bests with 30 goals and 34 assists for 64 points in 81 games last regular season. In the first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, he picked up five points in six games.

The winger has 132 points in 211 games since his National League debut.
