Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos’ future is likely to pique the interest of many hockey observers, and his recent statements are likely to fuel rumors.
As the Bolts begin training camp, the forward faces questions about his contract status. 2023-2024, the final year of an eight-year, $68 million pact, expires. If he doesn’t get along with the Florida organization, he will be released next summer, and leaving would be a disappointment in his eyes.

Stamkos didn’t shy away when he spoke to reporters on Wednesday.
“To be honest, I’m disappointed at the lack of conversation about this. “At the end of the last campaign, I expressed the hope that the problem would be resolved by the start of the camp,” he said. I am ready to negotiate [pendant la saison]. I didn’t see this coming, but that’s the current situation.”
“I mentioned that I wanted to continue and finish my career here. However, this is beyond my control. “I can’t draw up the contract myself,” he also clarified.
More from Stamkos on extension talks.
“Like I said at the end of last year. I would like to extend and play here and finish my career here, but that is out of my hands. I can’t write a contract for myself.” #GoBolts pic.twitter.com/fiQseWseuH
