Lilo & Stitch: Zach Galifianakis joins the live-action Disney+ adaptation of Marcel The Shell

Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover franchise) has signed on to star in Marcell the Shell With Shoes On’s live-action film, Lilo & Stitch, filmmaker Dean Fleischer Camp has confirmed.

Details of his role in the Disney+ picture are under wraps. But the original 2002 animated film explored the relationship between a lonely girl named Lilo and the alien Stitch, who was engineered to be a force of destruction.

Chris Kekaniokalani Bright wrote the screenplay for the new film, based on an earlier draft by Mike Van Waes. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce for Rideback, while Ryan Halprin will serve as executive producer for the company.

Galifianakis is an Emmy-winning actor and comedian, best known for roles on FX’s The Hangover and acclaimed comedy series Baskets, as well as his short form Funny or Die talk show Between Two Ferns is. He has also previously appeared in films such as A Wrinkle in Time, Birdman, The Campaign and Due Date while conducting animation productions such as Big Mouth, Ron’s Gone Wrong and Missing Link voted.

Among other projects coming up for Galifianakis is filmmakers Kristin Gore and Damian Kulash’s drama The Beanie Bubble, in which he stars alongside Elizabeth Banks and Sarah Snook.
