On Friday, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham literally declared “war” on a New York bill that would force some Chick-Fil-A locations to open on Sundays.
The fried chicken chain restaurant, known for its conservative views, is closed on Sundays for religious reasons and is also known to donate to anti-LGBTQ organizations.
“If this continues, I will introduce legislation to withhold federal funding from any city or state that requests it @ChickfilA to stay open on Sunday,” Graham continued on X on Friday. “The founders of Chick-fil-A made an early decision to close on Sunday, consistent with their faith. Any administration's attempt to reverse this decision is antithetical to who we are as Americans. Chick-fil-A is a great company with thousands of locations that provide the public with a quality product and care for their employees. New York is off base and their actions will not go unanswered.”
Graham sparked his online ire by “protesting” outside a New York Chick-Fil-A later that afternoon. “I showed up at their Manhattan location today during my visit to NYC to send a clear message: Hands off OUR Chick-Fil-A!” Graham tweeted, grinning broadly.
Honestly, dude, good one.
