Lions a win that feels good

Lions: a win that feels good

We don’t know if the Trois-Rivières Lions’ desert crossing will end, but their 7-4 win over the Norfolk Admirals on Friday at the Norfolk Scope will certainly do the trick.

Before their second meeting with the Carolina Hurricanes in three days, the Trois-Rivières-based side had won just two of their 16 games.

An avalanche of goals allowed Marc-André Bergeron’s men to add two valuable points to the table in the day’s clash.

Defender Alex Breton was an integral part of his team’s success. The Beauceron scored two goals and an assist, becoming accomplices in the Lions’ first goal scored by Nicolas Guay in a massive attack.

Brett Stapley and Breton also scored in the first period, but replies from Eric Cooley and Darren McCormick reduced the visitors’ lead to one goal.

In the third half, the Lions pulled out their claws to walk away with the win. Anthony Beauregard pounced on a loose puck at the mouth of the net to score the winner, then Brendan Soucie threaded the needle in a second game in a row to make it 6-4.

Soucie also picked up an assist on Riley McKay’s midfield pass.

Ryan Foss and Stepan Timofeyev, meanwhile, eluded Joe Vrbetic’s vigilance in the loss. The young keeper has had better nights of work, he who gave up four times in 18 shots.
