Lisa will hit northern Guatemala this Thursday as a tropical storm after hitting Belize as a Category 1 hurricane
Lisa landed at the mouth of the Sibun River near Belize City on Wednesday with heavy rain, winds and storm surge, moving west at 19 km/h around 19:00 local time.
Recent reports indicate it would be making its way into Guatemalan territory at any moment through the Petén region, with sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour and a tropical storm category.
All of Belize and a stretch of coast in southeastern Mexico, from Chetumal to Puerto Costa Maya, are on cyclone alert because of Lisa.
For its part, the Honduran government suspended the tropical storm warning for the Bay Islands and the north coast of the country.

Lisa is expected to continue west, crossing through Guatemala and a sector of Mexico until it enters the Gulf of Campeche to assume an erratic trajectory and become a tropical depression late next Friday until it dissipates.
This is the sixth hurricane to hit the Caribbean region this year.
