List of BAFTA award winners | CNN

CNN –

“Oppenheimer” was a big winner at the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards, held at the Royal Festival Hall in London, England, on Sunday.

The Christopher Nolan-directed awards season favorite led the nominations this year with 13 nominations and won seven awards, including director, lead actor and the coveted best picture prize.

Nolan won his first-ever BAFTA and, in his acceptance speech, thanked the studio Universal for “allowing us to explore something dark and seeing the potential for it.”

“Poor Things” was the ceremony’s other standout winner with five awards, including Emma Stone’s lead actress nod.

“The Holdovers” star Da'Vine Joy Randolph continues to dominate the supporting actress category this awards season. Randolph thanked her co-star Paul Giamatti and accepted her BAFTA, saying: “My goodness, I cry every time I say your name. They represent everything that is great and good about our craft.”

Director Jonathan Glazer's chilling Holocaust drama “The Zone of Interest” won the prestigious awards for outstanding British film and best non-English language film. The “Barbie” film, “Saltburn,” “Maestro” and the Martin Scorsese-directed epic “Killers of the Flower Moon” came away empty-handed on Sunday.

The ceremony also featured some film legends, including Tom Cruise (via video link) and Michael J. Fox, who introduced the Best Picture category. Prince William also attended the ceremony on public duty after Catherine, Princess of Wales, was hospitalized and his father, King Charles, was diagnosed with cancer.

After the BAFTAs, the Screen Actors Guild Awards (which air on Netflix on February 24) are the only other major awards show before the Oscars on March 10.

The BAFTA ceremony was not broadcast live. It aired on BBC One in the UK and is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and BritBox.
