Flee received three nominations, while Drive My Car made Best Picture and Lady Gaga was eliminated from the Best Actress category. The full list can be found here.
UPDATE: 7:00am ET on Sunday, March 27th
Since the nominations for the 94th Academy Awards were announced on February 8th, the Oscar race has evolved significantly. Back then, it seemed like Netflix’s The Power of the Dog was the overwhelming front-runner. But in the time since, “CODA” has risen dramatically after rival streamer Apple TV+ went old school, showing the film frequently and judiciously to the Academy’s voting members.
IndieWire Editor-in-Chief and Awards Expert Anne Thompson released her full list of Oscar winner predictions on Thursday, and she believes “CODA” will win Best Picture, though the other most likely choice is still “The Power of the Dog” is. ”
The Best Actress category has turned into a nearly five-page race: Jessica Chastain seems to have all the momentum after winning Best Actress at the SAG Awards and the Critics Choice Awards; but some think Penélope Cruz could be a contender for Parallel Mothers, while Kristen Stewart garnered rave reviews for her role as Princess Diana in Spencer, Nicole Kidman won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for Being the Ricardos, and Olivia Colman one is an Oscar favorite who recently won an Oscar (for 2018’s The Favourite, while this year she was nominated for The Lost Daughter and last year won Best Supporting Actress for The Father).

The other acting categories seem largely fixed. Thompson believes Will Smith will win best actor for King Richard, Ariana DeBose for supporting actress for West Side Story and Troy Kotsur for Coda. And Jane Campion is the undisputed front-runner for best director.
Adapted screenplay, however, seems to be the other prominent category, which is true horse racing, as Thompson ultimately wrote “CODA” (which is based on a 2014 French film) Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Elena Ferrante adaptation “The Lost Daughter” or Ryûsuke Hamaguchi and Takamasa Oes Haruki prefers Murakami adaptation “Drive My Car”.
With all these new developments, it’s all the more interesting to look back at where we were on February 8th. So much has happened since then.
Article previously published on February 8th:
The time has come for the nominations for the 94th Academy Awards. While this year’s ceremony isn’t quite as far off as last year’s belated event — pushed back to late April — there’s still a long way to go for the contenders. This year’s Academy Awards takes place on March 27, with all eyes on Netflix and most of the momentum packed with massive competitors like Don’t Look Now and The Power of the Dog.
The nominations were announced early Tuesday morning by actors Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross. It was a particularly strong year for foreign films. Drive My Car broke into both Best Picture and Best Director races. Flee received nominations for Documentary, Animated Feature and Best International Feature Film. Meanwhile, there were a few surprises, including Pedro Almodóvar and Denis Villeneuve being knocked out of Best Director for Dune (the latter receiving an Adapted Screenplay nomination), Jessie Buckley being nominated for Best Supporting Actress for The Lost Daughter ‘, Lady Gaga, managed to be eliminated from the Best Actress race (‘House of Gucci’ only appeared once, in makeup and hairstyling), Jesse Plemons shared a Best Supporting Actor nomination with Kodi Smit-McPhee for ‘The Might of the Dog,” Chastain chimed in for best actress for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” and more.
