Lithuania takes part in joint NATO exercises in Germany

Vilnius, February 26 (Prensa Latina) Lithuania is taking part in North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) maneuvers in Germany today amid tensions sparked by the supply of arms from that bloc to Ukraine.

According to some of the military leadership of this small ex-Soviet republic, a general staff is formed at divisional level from the commanders of the army units, the air force and the field medical service.

The drills will be held in Germany until March 10 to practice countering a response to an alleged threat of war and tactical actions under wartime conditions, Land Forces chief Brigadier General Arturas Radvilas said.

Soldiers from Great Britain, Germany, Poland and Romania also take part in the war games at a military base in Bavaria.

Moscow has dismissed attempts by the West to position it as an alleged threat to Europe and, on the contrary, urged then-NATO to agree on a comprehensive regional security agreement, which was rejected in Brussels.

Barely two months after such a proposal was rejected, on February 24, 2022, President Vladimir Putin ordered a warfare operation to be launched in Ukraine to protect the population of the rebellious Donbass region and to demilitarize and denazify the neighboring country.

Putin recently stated that the Atlantic Alliance is indeed one of the parties to the Ukraine conflict, since it is supplying around $150 billion worth of armaments to Kiev without receiving any money in return.

Russian foreign intelligence revealed that NATO sent 1,170 air defense systems, 440 tanks, 1,510 infantry fighting vehicles, 655 artillery systems and 9,800 multi-launch missiles to Ukraine, among others.
