Little girl fell into a river: search turns into recovery mission

The search continued Tuesday morning for the fifth consecutive day to find a four-year-old girl who fell into the Mistassibi River in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean on Friday.

It is now a rescue mission, said Sergeant Hugues Beaulieu, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Today around twenty police officers are on duty, accompanied by a drone and a nautical team downstream.

As has been the case for several days, the search was interrupted at nightfall on Monday for security reasons.

On Monday afternoon, the SQ, with the consent of the family, released a photo of the girl's clothing at the time of her disappearance and urged residents and citizens traveling near the river to contact police if they saw clothing similar to that seen in the photo saw photo.

The little girl wore a colorful winter coat and blue snow pants.

The SQ is asking citizens to contact them if they see clothing that may be similar to that in this photo.

The search will continue without the divers as all possible work has been completed, Mr Beaulieu said on Monday.

On Friday, December 22, emergency responders were called to the scene in Dolbeau-Mistassini where the little girl slipped with her mother when the tragedy occurred around 2:30 p.m. near a hiking trail near Route 169 occurred.
