We are mobilizing on the Global Day of Action for the Oceans at a historic moment!
There are several cities around the world mobilizing to protect the oceans this weekend. 25 groups of Greenpeace volunteers took to the streets of cities across the country to inform the population, add support and draw the attention of governments currently at the UN negotiations Ambitious global ocean treaty.
What do we want to achieve?
WE WANT TO MAKE HISTORY! We are in the middle of negotiations and now it is important that ministers like Teresa Ribera push hard and underline the urgency to speed up the debate and achieve a strong global ocean treaty.
Until March 3, world leaders meet at the United Nations headquarters in New York to approve protecting 30% of the oceans by 2030.
If politicians act, a Global Ocean Treaty would be the greatest conservation victory of our generation 🎉
Today, only 3% of the surface of our oceans is protected. IT IS AMAZING when the Life on earth depends directly on the oceans.. However, these are overfished. Large industrial fishing fleets, marine mining, and the oil and gas industry continue to deplete and damage ocean ecosystems and species.
And what can you do?
In order for a strong and binding ocean treaty to be passed, we need your help. All life on the planet depends on the oceans, so the stakes are high. Sign and demand his protection!
