Netanyahu announces Israel will cut off electricity supply to Gaza
After a meeting of Israel’s security cabinet, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the country’s decision to “suspend deliveries of electricity, fuel and goods to Gaza.” In fact, much of the Gaza Strip was plunged into darkness after dark, as Israel supplies almost all of the areas’ electricity.
“We are facing a long and arduous war. This war was forced on us by a murderous attack by Hamas,” Netanyahu added after the meeting, in which measures were taken to “destroy Hamas’ military and state capabilities.”
“The first phase is currently being completed with the destruction of most of the enemy forces that have invaded our territory,” he said. “We have started offensive training, which will continue wholeheartedly and tirelessly until the goals are achieved. “We will restore security for the citizens of Israel and we will win,” he added.
For its part, Hamas said it was preparing for what could be a long battle. “We are ready for all options, including all-out war,” Saleh Al-Arouri, deputy head of Hamas’ political bureau, told Al-Jazeera television. “We are ready to do whatever is necessary for the dignity and freedom of our people,” he added.
