Russian attack in Kherson
“The Kherson region has experienced another terrible night,” provincial governor Oleksandr Prokudin said on the messaging app Telegram on Sunday. A Russian attack on the Kherson region in the south of the country left a dozen people injured, including a 27-year-old woman and her 9-month-old baby, he said. The woman and child were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, he said. A 33-year-old Red Cross doctor was also injured, he added.

Next Tuesday, Russia will try to return to the UN Human Rights Council, from which it was expelled after its invasion of Ukraine. On this day, the UN General Assembly elects fifteen new members for the period 2024-2026. A few days after the bloodbath in the Ukrainian village of Groza, in which more than 50 people were killed by a Russian attack, Moscow’s candidacy is attracting everyone’s attention.
To be elected, a country needs 97 votes from the 193 member states. In April 2022, 93 countries supported Russia’s suspension from the Council, while 24 voted against it. What’s special about Tuesday’s vote is that it will take place in a secret ballot, in a fragmented world where many countries are tired of the attention the West is paying to Ukraine. An uncertain bet that will allow Moscow to gauge its support on the international stage.

UKRAINIAN STRIKES
A Ukrainian attack on Russia’s Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, killed one person on Saturday, the local governor said. “One person was killed – a man who was on the street at the time of the strike,” Vyacheslav Gladkov said in Telegram. According to him, 14 houses and one car were also damaged.
The Russian Defense Ministry said it had fired three Ukrainian ballistic missiles over the Belgorod region on Saturday.
