BRITISH TANK DESTROYED IN UKRAINE

A British Challenger 2 tank delivered from London to Kiev was actually destroyed, British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed. “As far as we know, this is the first defeat,” he told Sky News. “We accept that there may be material losses in a war zone,” he added, noting that London had no plans to replace the vehicle.

As a reminder, the United Kingdom delivered 14 Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine this year. This would be the first destruction of such a device on a battlefield since it entered service in 1994, apart from one hit by friendly fire in Iraq in 2003, the Guardian clarified on Tuesday.

Kyiv TACKLE SARKOZY

In the pages of Le Monde, Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, discusses the development of the conflict and the latest statements by Nicolas Sarkozy. According to the head of diplomacy, the former president of the republic “had his finest hour in Georgia in 2008”. “Dealing with this crisis is one of the reasons for the chain of events since the annexation of Crimea and the invasion of Ukraine,” he quipped. As a reminder, in a press interview, the man accused of profiting from lucrative contracts in Russia reiterated that “we” “need” the Russians and “they need us.”

FLASHING IN Kyiv

The head of American diplomacy should use his visit to Kiev to announce $1 billion in new aid to Ukraine, a senior State Department official told reporters.

Washington will continue its “efforts” to ensure that the Ukrainians have “what they need for this phase of the fight,” the State Department official assured on condition of anonymity, referring to the counteroffensive. This is “equipment not only for attacks, but also for actually breaking through the Russians’ vicious defensive lines,” said the same official, who particularly welcomed the “impressive progress” of Kiev’s forces in the south, but also in the east

Moscow’s “revenge” is being prepared

The situation on the Eastern Front remains difficult, said Ukrainian Ground Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrsky, as Russian forces are trying to gain the upper hand and “take revenge” on the offensive of Ukrainian troops. “The enemy does not abandon its plans to reach the borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” he noted, citing the army media center. “He is stubbornly preparing for revenge,” he said.

A DEATH IN ODESSA

A Russian drone strike in the Odessa region of southern Ukraine killed one person, local governor Oleg Kiper said, adding that port and agricultural infrastructure had been damaged. “Unfortunately, one person died in hospital from his injuries,” he lamented, stating that the victim was employed in agriculture.

Kyiv in Russia’s sights

Last night, Kiev was the target of a combined attack with “cruise missiles” and other “probably ballistic” missiles, the head of the military administration, Serguiï Popko, said on Telegram. “All targets in the direction of the capital were destroyed by air defense,” he assured. According to the Ukrainian emergency service, no injuries were reported. Only the fire in a “trading company” was caused by “falling debris from an enemy missile”.

WAGNER RECOGNIZED AS A “TERRORIST”?

London should add the Wagner Group to its list of terrorist organizations, according to a demand from the Chron. “Wagner is a violent and destructive organization that acts as a foreign military instrument for Vladimir Putin’s Russia,” Interior Minister Suella Braverman told the British daily.

The minister has the power to “ban” an organization that she believes is involved in terrorist attacks in order to criminalize supporting the organization in question. This proposal will be presented to Parliament today, British media specify.

Bombings “very, very close” to the Romanian border

Attacks on Ukraine occurred “very close” to the border with Romania, the president of this NATO member country said the day after Russian explosive drones crashed on the Danube. “800 meters from our border,” explained Klaus Iohannis, attacks were registered, “so very, very close.” Since July’s suspension of the deal that allowed Ukraine to export its grain across the Black Sea, Russia has stepped up bombings in the southwestern Ukraine region bordering Romania, where there are ports and other infrastructure critical to that trade.

WARNING

North Korea will “pay a price in the international community” for any arms sales to Russia in support of its war in Ukraine, the White House warned. However, asked at a press conference about “active discussions” between Moscow and Pyongyang on the issue, national security adviser Jake Sullivan admitted that he could not say what types of weapons would be delivered as part of a possible agreement between Moscow and Pyongyang, the two allied countries. “It remains an open question as to what type of material and what quality of that material could be delivered,” he admitted. But “that says a lot about Russia, which needs to turn to a country like North Korea to strengthen its defense capabilities.”
