TURKEY WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE PEACE MEETING IN UKRAINE AT THE END OF OCTOBER
Turkey will take part in a meeting on peace in Ukraine organized by Kiev in Malta next weekend, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday after an exchange with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Malta announced on Friday that it would host a peace meeting on October 28-29 at the request of the Ukrainian presidency. Other events of this kind took place this year in Saudi Arabia and Denmark.
“We discussed the next round of peace negotiations in Malta. Turkey will participate and bring its voice and position of authority,” the Ukrainian leader wrote on X (formerly Twitter). According to the Ukrainian press, no Russian representative will take part in this meeting.

Russian army lost 900 men in 24 hours, Ukraine says
According to the Ukrainian army, the Russian army lost around 900 men – killed or wounded – within 24 hours and 150 armored vehicles were disabled on the Avdiivka front. “The enemy has repeated its attacks and is not giving up its attempts to encircle Avdiivka,” the Ukrainian Army General Staff said in its morning report on Facebook. “Our soldiers are holding the defensive lines.”

Strikes in the South
Multiple Russian attacks have left at least three dead and four injured in Ukraine in the past 24 hours, particularly in Kryvyy Rig, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian authorities announced Saturday.
According to national police, the bomb attack on a residential area on Friday evening in Kryvyï Rig in the Dnipropetrovsk region left one dead and one injured. Another person died in a bomb attack in Nikopol, a town on the banks of the Dnieper, about 100 kilometers east of Kryvy Rig, the regional administration said.
Even further south, in the Kherson region, a series of attacks have left one dead and one injured since Friday morning, according to national authorities.

A SECOND AMERICAN JOURNALIST IN PRISON
A Russian court has extended the detention of Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva until October 23.
