How to use the CELIAPP to purchase a first property

Living on the bus to save for a house

A Nova Scotia couple found the ideal solution to save money on their first home: they moved into a bus so they wouldn't have to pay rent.

Despite paying $1,500 a month for three and a half years, Luke Chiasson and his girlfriend were not eligible for a bank loan to buy their first property.

So they decided to make a big change to achieve their goal. So they renovated an old school bus to turn it into a living environment.

“We told ourselves we couldn’t spend our savings on rent. He just goes into a pit. We’re making someone else rich,” Luke Chiasson explained in an interview with CTV News. The latter also stated that since moving into this mobile accommodation he has only been paying for water and food.

Apparently converting this bus into an apartment wasn't free. In order to finance this project, the couple had to tighten their belts for a year. In addition to the money, the couple also invested a lot of time as they carried out the work themselves.

The couple usually parks the bus on a property owned by friends or family. But if you decide to go on vacation, it's easy: just start the engine and hit the road in your mobile home.

“It’s pretty comfortable, you know? Like a small apartment, right? emphasized Mr. Chiasson.
