Liz Cheney has criticized ousted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for “promoting white supremacists and anti-Semites” as part of his leadership.

Cheney lost in a 2022 primary to Harriet Hageman in a race that was heavily influenced by her criticism of Donald Trump.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney’s daughter said McCarthy confused the party by following Trump’s lead.

“I wish it was surprising,” she told CNN. “You know, what we saw is the result of the leadership decisions that Kevin McCarthy made after the 2020 election and certainly after January 6th.”

“And, you know, looking the other way in the face of the kind of attacks on our democracy that we’ve seen from Donald Trump and his allies in the House of Representatives.”

Former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney criticized ousted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Sunday for “singling out white supremacists and anti-Semites” as part of his leadership.

McCarthy was eventually impeached and the House was led for weeks by a temporary speaker who was in a position to find a new leader.

While she didn’t call any specific GOP members anti-Semitic, she did call out Speaker’s potential successor Jim Jordan — who had failed several times to secure votes for the post — for angering the post.

“Looking the other way in the face of the kinds of attacks on our democracy we have seen from Donald Trump and his allies in the House of Representatives, including Jim Jordan; “Frankly, we are singling out these members, some of whom are white supremacists and some of whom are anti-Semitic,” she said.

Cheney also told CBS News on Sunday that she hasn’t ruled out a possible presidential run in 2024, telling CNN’s Jake Tapper that it still can’t be Trump.

“He cannot be the next president,” she said. “If he does, then he will do all the things he tried to do but was prevented from doing by responsible people around him in the Justice Department and the White House counsel’s office. “There will be no guardrails and everyone has been warned.”

She called Trump “the most dangerous threat we face as a nation.”

Cheney is a staunch opponent of Trump and was one of only two Republicans to serve on the special committee investigating the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. She has repeatedly spoken out against the former president – both during his time in office and after he resigned.

In June, the former lawmaker blamed American voters for electing Trump and said it was up to the federal electorate to get more “serious” people elected to office in future elections.

“I don’t look at it from the perspective of whether I should do this or not do this,” Cheney said Monday at an event at the 92nd Street Y New York Global Center for Culture and Arts when asked about making a bid.

“I look at it from the perspective of, ‘How do we elect serious people?’ And I think that electing serious people can’t be partisan,” she added.

“We have created a situation in our politics where we elect idiots.”

Cheney joined nine other lawmakers in voting for Trump’s second impeachment following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

Since then, she has been a very vocal critic of the former president, which led to Cheney losing her House seat in Congress representing the deep red Trump country of Wyoming.

Since leaving office, her main priority has been to prevent Trump from ever regaining a position of power within the government.
