the Prime Minister of United Kingdom Liz Truss announced his resignation from office. The announcement was made on Thursday 20th, 45 days after she took office on September 6th. This made her the prime minister with the shortest term in the country’s history. Shortly after announcing her resignation, Truss confirmed that her successor would be voted on within a week. Outside his office, Tuss said he had realized he could not keep his promises and had resigned as leader of the Conservative Party as a result. “I recognize that, given the situation, I am unable to exercise the mandate to which I was elected by the Conservative Party. So I spoke to His Majesty the King to let him know that I am stepping down as leader of the Conservative Party,” Truss said. “This morning I met the Chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady. We agreed that there will be a leadership election next week. This will ensure we remain on track to deliver on our budget plans and safeguard our country’s economic stability and national security.”

Truss replaced Boris Johnson at the helm of the country but had come under heavy pressure to step down. The reason was an economic plan that outraged the financial market and his party. Proposals included a sweeping tax cut in the country and a billiondollar loan to fill gaps in public finances. The proposal was not well received in the country, which is experiencing its worst inflation in 40 years, at over 10%. The government had previously denied rumors that Truss would leave the government before the plan was implemented on October 31. In the past week, the crisis in his government has worsened, with two ministers leaving the government, including one of those responsible for the plan.
