Lizzo hopped to her Instagram early Sunday to recognize and watch Juneteenth.

Though Pharrell was busy in Washington DC for the Something In The Water festival, the star took a moment to share his own words. The first photo in the series showed the actor standing on part of a stage, with the backdrop of the historic capital behind him.

In the caption, he wrote: “DC your energy last night was incredible. I and my Phriends wish you a nice #June. See you today for day 3 of @somethinginthewater.’

The three-day weekend music festival was created by Pharrell Williams and features a long lineup of well-known artists including Usher, TI and Calvin Harris.

Other celebrities and individuals have attended the holiday celebrations, including the Juneteenth Foundation’s Freedom Festival, also held in Washington DC

In an interview with The Hill, event organizer Laquan Austion spoke about the holiday.

“You know, we often say that June 16th is not a black holiday, not an American holiday. It’s not just for black people, it’s an American holiday and I think it’s clear what it’s for,” he said.

Lizzo has recently been embroiled in some controversy over an offensive insult in her latest song Grrrls.

The original text read: “I’m as**z.” The slur is a shortened version of the term “spastic”.

Due to the amount of backlash, the singer quickly made some revisions to her song. The new text reads: “I’m holding back.”

After the change, the star took to her social media to announce the adjustment.

In the post, she wrote: “I never wish to encourage derogatory language. As a fat black woman in America, so many hurtful words have been used against me that I overlook the power words can have.
