Local media shows no signs of survivors of the plane crash in China

No survivors have yet been found from the Eastern Airlines plane carrying 132 people that crashed in southern China, local media reported Tuesday, March 22.

The plane, a Boeing 737 with 123 passengers and nine crew members, was flying from Kunming Changshui in Yunnan province to Guangzhou in Guangdong province when it crashed in Guangxi in a mountainous area near the eastern city of Wuzhou on Monday.

Search and rescue efforts continue. Remains of the plane and some personal belongings of the people on board were found at the scene. However, no survivors were found.

Investigators are looking for the plane’s flight recorders to determine the cause of the crash.

In a statement, Beijing said it was “in contact with the US National Transportation Safety Board and our technical experts stand ready to assist in the investigation being led by China’s civil aviation authority.”
