Rishi Sunak, who is due to arrive in Latvia on Monday, will urge the other leaders of the countries participating in the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) alongside the UK to maintain or surpass levels of support in 2023 that this year Ukraine was granted a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office.

He will also announce that over the next year London will “supply hundreds of thousands of artillery munitions under a £250 million ($304 million) contract that will ensure a steady flow of vital munitions for ‘Artillery to Ukraine in 2023’ will, the statement said.

100,000 ammunition shipments since February

The UK has led the way by “providing defense assistance to Ukraine, including the deployment of several rocket launchers and recently 125 anti-aircraft guns,” the prime minister’s office continued. “Since February, the month Russia launched its offensive, we have also provided more than 100,000 ammunition,” he added. Last month, Rishi Sunak traveled to Kyiv to offer further support to Ukraine in its fight against Russian forces.

“The UK and our European allies have responded in synchrony to the invasion of Ukraine and we remain steadfast in our quest to bring peace to Europe,” Rishi Sunak said in the statement. “But to achieve peace, we must deter aggression, and our operations in the region are essential to ensure we are able to respond to the most serious threats,” he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy will also address participants at the JEF meeting, which brings together leaders from Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and the United Kingdom.
