Quebecers taking to the streets for the long weekend must exercise caution as spring water flooding has already wreaked havoc in some regions, the Department of Forests, Wildlife and Parks suggested in a news release.

“The thaw and recent days’ rainfall in certain sections could affect the stability of the roads,” he suggested.
Quebec residents should also remember good practices to follow when road conditions are poor, especially in flood-prone areas.
Drive safely
Adapt your driving style to the road conditions and don’t just rely on the speed limit. On an unstable road, a speed of 70 km/h can quickly become dangerous.
plan ahead
If you’re driving on a remote road, bring warm clothing, a first aid kit, non-perishable food, and necessary survival gear in case of trouble. In addition, cell phone networks are not active everywhere. Bring a printed road map just in case.
When approaching bridges, slow down
Adjust your speed when approaching a bridge and give way to heavy vehicles. Don’t risk crossing a closed bridge: if it’s not open, it’s not safe.
