Longueuil has adopted its Municipal Immigration Action Plan 2023-2025, a tool to “make its communities even more welcoming, supportive and inclusive”. The focus of the plan is to create spaces for encounters and dialogue.
With the aim of inclusion, Longueuil, in collaboration with its partners, will organize several intercultural events, short-lived spaces for intercultural meetings as part of local activities, as well as welcome meetings for newcomers.
Cultural outreach activities will also raise the host community’s awareness of the contributions of immigrants and people of color.
The plan also calls for the implementation of training and development activities in the areas of equity, inclusion and communication.
Longueuil also intends to set up a municipal project call program aimed at financially supporting initiatives and projects in the agglomeration and promoting inclusion, the fight against racism and intercultural rapprochement.
The measures identified also include reviewing services for immigrants and people with precarious status to better inform and equip stakeholders in the metropolitan area.
Accessibility of services is the other main objective pursued by the implementation of this plan.
$600,000
The Immigration Action Plan was developed in collaboration with numerous partners, including members of the Immigration and Cultural Diversity Table of the Longueuil agglomeration.
He received $600,000 in financial support through the Community Support Program of the Ministry of Immigration, Franciscanization and Integration.
Minister Christine Fréchette is pleased that with this plan, the city of Longueuil and its people are committed to providing the best opportunities for immigrants who choose to succeed and thrive in their host community in French.”
“This plan will not only allow us to better respond to the needs of people with a migrant background and facilitate their integration, but also ensure their development and full participation in our community,” added Mayor Catherine Fournier. Longueuil is rich in diversity and I am convinced that the numerous dialogue spaces we are creating will benefit the entire population of the agglomeration.”
