MEXICO CITY, April 11 (RHC) – The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, offered a first message following the release of the preliminary results of the rapid count of the consultation on the revocation of the mandate, showing a trend of more than 90% support stay in office.

In a video published on his social networks, the President reiterated that this Sunday was “historic” and “unprecedented” as it was the first time the Latin American country had held a referendum to revoke the mandate.

Hours after the National Electoral Institute (INE) reported the results of the quick count, the president released a video estimating that between 90.3% and 91.9% of the votes were for the option to be the chief executive constitutional mandate (until September 2024).

“I stay and we will continue with the transformation of the country,” said López Obrador.

However, according to a quick count, citizen participation on referendum day would be between 17 and 18.2 percent. In the absence of progress on the settlement of the audit and calculation logs, this would mean that the results of the consultation would not be binding as participation of 40% of the nominal list would be required.

“That does not make the request non-binding. The ruler must be ashamed, he must have dignity and not be forced,” he said.

In his message, López Obrador regretted that the INE did not install the same polling stations as in the 2018 federal elections. This Sunday, the National Electoral Institute set up 57,448 polling stations.

“It was a good day and the important thing is that we assert democracy,” said the President.

In his conclusion, López Obrador said that in the more than two years he has left in his government, he will “complete the work of transformation” of his government. (Source/RT)
