On the night of this Friday, May 26, bassist, guitarist and composer Juan Carlos Formell Alfonso, member of the Cuban group Los Van Van, died in New York City and during a concert.

According to various reports, the artist died after being unwell on stage and as a result of a heart attack.

It is worth noting that the bassist was the son of Juan Formell, the founding director of the Los Van Van Orchestra.

About 45 minutes into the concert, which took place on the stage of the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx, New York, Juan Carlos Formell began to feel nauseous.

In this sense, the presentation of “Los Van Van” had to be interrupted because, as can be seen in images published on social networks, due to the confusion caused by the event, all the musicians left the stage.

The curtain didn’t fall until about ten minutes after the artists had left the stage, leading audiences to expect that the show would be cancelled.

Afterwards, the members of the music band returned to the stage to continue the show without the bass player, who, according to the EFE news agency, was taken to the nearest hospital.

Four ambulances and two fire engines arrived at the theater.

Despite the confusion that arose among the participants of the event, the group did not comment and began to play “Sandunguera”.

Minutes later, Robertón, one of the singers, introduced Sebastián, a Uruguayan bassist, and later, Lele, another singer, hinted that the musician was there to enjoy the show but ended up playing on stage.

With this concert, the Cuban group began their tour of the United States, which they continued at the San Francisco Carnival and on Sunday in San Diego (California), to later continue the tour in Europe; However, following this event, it is not known if the tour is still happening.
