Louise Thompson shares her tips for staying ‘connected to reality’ from the hospital

Louise Thompson shared her tips for “feeling better” and staying “connected to reality” while in the hospital on her Instagram Story on Thursday.

The former Made In Chelsea star, 32, revealed she was back in hospital earlier this week due to an “unexpected situation” while dealing with another health issue.

Louise spent a month in intensive care after welcoming 14-month-old son Leo-Hunter Libbey with boyfriend Ryan and is suffering from PTSD and postnatal anxiety following the near-death birth.

She hasn’t revealed the exact medical issue, but has offered her followers the advice she’s learned from her experience.

The reality star wrote from her hospital bed: “What a hurricane. Here are some things that have made me feel better… and by better I mean more connected to reality.

“The last time I was in the hospital for an extended period of time (felt like forever) I really disconnected from reality and couldn’t even turn on a phone or focus on anything for more than a minute. I learned a lot from this experience.

“TRY TO STAY CONNECTED AND WORK LIKE NORMAL. Gosh, last time I even thought eating a Lindor chocolate ball my brother bought me was going to kill me, so I had to spit it out.

She continued: “Talk to anyone you can find. Whether it’s nurses (don’t be offended if they’re busy and need to run away), family members on the phone, friends on WhatsApp, strangers on Instagram.

“Anything that distracts your mind. It might feel really odd to update people on such significant life-threatening events as if they were daily activities, but for me it helped to normalize (or make too logical) what was happening and this time to talk about it.

“Last time I think I waited for my brain to make sense of what had happened, for me to open up to people or see people, and that was a LONG TIME to wait.”

Louise revealed she broke down in tears after speaking to a kind man who worked for a charity.

She continued: “I spoke to a really sweet man with the charity sweetie trolley and he made me cry for being so nice.

‘Take a selfie. It may sound strange or vain, but it’s good to remember what you look like. A quick look in the mirror confirms our self-confidence.

“Looking at yourself in the mirror is an everyday experience for many outside of the hospital. After being in the hospital for so long last time, I got scared of mirrors, so it shouldn’t happen again.’

She added that her “senses” are really important in bringing her “back to reality and normality,” whether it’s through food or perfume.

“Eat something as soon as you are allowed. Taste is one of the BEST senses and we want to bring ourselves back to reality and normality,” she added.

“I think it’s important for me to use my senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch) as much as possible. On that note I could use some scent, honestly the sweat my body puts out when it’s on all the IV meds is awful

“I just realized how weird it is that I’m writing all these hospital ‘tips’ as if someone else is actually having the same weird experience as me.

“That might help, ME. hp I’m bored (which is a good sign because it means I’m not super sick)”.

It comes after Louise revealed on Wednesday that the health issue caused her to miss her flight to St Lucia.

Snapping a photo from her hospital bed, she wrote, “We were supposed to be flying to St. Lucia this morning.”

She admitted, “I’m so upset we can’t go because I really needed some sun and sea.”

However, Louise bravely tried to say positively, adding: “But at the same time I’m SO grateful that this all happened on English soil because I have no idea what the outcome would have been abroad.”

“I don’t really know what to say right now other than a huge thank you to everyone who kept the old ticker going.

“I feel I have very much used up my quota of NHS services at this point. Eek. I can’t help but feel a little guilty about all of this.

“I think the only message for today is to take NOTHING for granted. Oh, and without sounding too dramatic, tell everyone you love them NOW.’
