An incident that for a brief moment looked like it could be a horror movie turned into a scene of tenderness in little league baseball on Tuesday.

In the Southwest Region Championship, Pearland faced Tulsa when Team Texas’ Kaiden Shelton threw a pitch that caught Tulsa’s Isaiah Jarvis on the earflap of his helmet around the temple.

Jarvis went down, his helmet coming off, but was able to get up fast enough and make it to first base.

There Jarvis noticed that his opponent Shelton was himself shaken after accidentally hitting him in the head with the ball and called a time-out.

He walked up the hill to comfort his rival, hugged him and uttered a few words of encouragement.

“Hey, you’re doing great,” Jarvis said while the crowd applauded the athletic show that unfolded in front of them.

The rest of the Pearland infield then followed Shelton’s example and came to the mound to check on their teammate.

Pearland ended up recording a 9-4 triumph that confirmed his place in the Little League World Series.

The series begins August 17th and runs through August 28th.
