The launch of the Love Island-heavy gin party comes after Ofcom announced they would not be pursuing complaints about the eighth season of the ITV2 show, despite receiving more than 7,000 complaints.

The show’s watchdog noted that their decision was made because “negative behavior at the mansion was not shown in a positive light.”

During the show’s eight-week run, 7,482 complaints related to “alleged misogynistic and bullying conduct” were filed by some of the male contestants.

Other complaints focused on “alleged misogyny, emotional abuse and coercive control” by the male contestants.

Among the more than 7,000 complaints received, one of the highest was 1,497 for an episode that aired on July 19.

During the episode, the islanders took part in a Snog, Marry, Pie challenge where they revealed who they would kiss, marry or smack in the face with a cream pie.

Dancer and model Tasha Ghouri was in tears at the comments Dami Hope and Luca Bish made during the challenge before throwing a cake in her face.

Ofcom said that viewer complaints for the episode related to “alleged bullying among the contestants and expressed ongoing concerns about behavior by the male contestants, which they viewed as misogynistic”.

Almost half of all complaints about the series were filed in just one week.

Figures showed that 2,481 viewers complained about “alleged misogynist behavior by some male contestants” during the July 17 episode of Movie Night.

Additionally, 427 viewers complained about the July 17 episode of Aftersun, in which host Laura Whitmore and panelists speculated about what happened between Ekin-Su Culculoglu and George Tasker in the bedroom.

In the dramatic Mad Movies episode of the ITV2 show, Luca Bish, Davide Sanclimenti and Dami Hope have all come under fire from fans for their treatment of the girls.

In addition to the 2,481 complaints received for the July 17 episode of Movie Night, a further 427 were received for next night’s episode relating “to alleged bullying and misogynist behavior by some male contestants” during a competitive match.

An Ofcom spokesman said: “We have carefully investigated complaints about this series on a range of subjects, including alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour.

“We recognize that emotionally charged or confrontational scenes may upset some viewers. But from our point of view, negative behavior in the villa was not put in a positive light.

“Viewers saw other islanders condemning the behavior and offering advice and support, as well as scenes where apologies were made.

“We also considered that the format of this reality show is well established and viewers would expect to see the ups and downs as couples’ relationships are tested.”

A month into the series, Women’s Aid announced they were in talks with ITV about the “misogyny and controlling behaviour” being shown at the villa.

A statement from the charity insisted that “specific information about abusive relationships and an understanding of controlling behaviors in relationships” is missing from the channel’s “inclusive training” ahead of the series.

Meanwhile, women’s charity Refuge issued a separate statement highlighting the “gas lighting and coercive control” exhibited by some of the boys.

A statement from Women’s Aid said: “At Women’s Aid we are tagged into a torrent of Twitter posts, with Love Island viewers highlighting the misogyny and controlling behavior displayed on screen.

“This is clearly more than just talking about individual candidates, and a program built around building romantic relationships needs to include guidelines on what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior in those relationships.

“We speak to ITV and they have shared information with us about their inclusion training, but what seems to be missing is specific information about abusive relationships and an understanding of relationship control.”

Women’s charity Refuge also wrote in a statement on Twitter: “The misogyny and occasional sexism observed in this series of #LoveIsland is extremely concerning.

“The double standards, gas lighting and coercive control displayed by the men in the mansion is enormously problematic.”

ITV told Web in response to the bullying allegations at the time: “We cannot stress enough how seriously we take the emotional wellbeing of all our islanders.”

“Welfare is always our number one concern and we have dedicated welfare producers and psychological support on hand at all times to monitor and speak to all islanders privately and off-camera.”

“At the same time, we also have a duty of care to the islanders, none of whom have the means to defend themselves against these highly harmful labels, and a duty of care to their next of kin, and we are obviously concerned that this may provoke a negative reaction on social media.” .

“Prior to this series, the show’s contributors were offered video training and guidance on inclusive language related to disability, sexuality, race and ethnicity, behaviors and microaggressions.

“We are always looking at how we expand and develop this training to ensure all of our islanders feel part of a safe and inclusive environment.”
