It was the end of an era… This Tuesday (20th), Lúcio Mauro Filho revealed how the decision to end TV Globo’s program “A Grande Família” came about. While participating in the Podpah podcast, the 48yearold actor said he was the first person in the cast to bring up the topic and consider the end of the attraction. At that time he had the support of the actress Marieta Severo.
The series made history and ended after 14 seasons on the air. According to the comedian, he was tired of playing the same character, Tuco, for so many years and said he wanted to try new things. Mauro described being the first to mention the possibility of completing “A Grande Família” during a meeting with everyone on the team a moment that caused some uneasiness.

“No one was talking about ending it… When the program was ten years old, I was in agony. I got on at 25, I turned 40, played the same character, I wanted to do new things, I still had a lot of fuel to burn,” the comedian explained.

“We always had an annual meeting at the beginning of the year. I never said anything, I was just thankful that I was there. But at the tenyear meeting, I said, ‘It’s okay… Are we thinking of stopping at some point?’ I asked the forbidden question. It was an atmosphere! Since the [Marco] Nanini turned and said, “I believe there is still wood to burn”. I was very embarrassed…” the actor said.
After the awkward situation, Lúcio announced that he had gained the support of Marieta Severo, who played Dona Nenê in the attraction. “Out of there [da reunião], I called Marieta and asked: ‘Did I say something wrong?’. And she said: “My son, you have brought up the forbidden subject! I can’t stop thinking about what you said [mas] I think I agree with you,'” the comedian said. He added that he will revisit the topic of breakup next year.

Thus, Filho said he gained Severo’s support at the next annual meeting as the veteran also raised the issue. “During the year, she and I talked [sobre o fim do seriado] and the following year I brought it up again. Two more years passed before the show actually came to an end after 14 seasons and 13 years on Globo’s schedule from 2001 to 2014. Lúcio stressed that even after the difficult situation of recent years, the feeling at the end of “The Great Family” was a good job.
“We wrote a beautiful chapter in the history of Brazilian television. And the proof of that is that I’m arriving, opening that door [do estúdio] and you say: ‘Tuquinho!’. an eternal affection [dos fãs]. We fought for the quality of this program from day one to the last. We always argued a lot, nothing was in vain, we cut everything that offended us.
