Lula and Fernández spoke to Human Rights Defenders

During his first official visit to the country since taking office as head of state, Lula spoke to Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, members of the Abuelas y Madres de Plaza de Mayo-Línea Fundadora and the Buena Memoria Association groups, among others.

You are an inspiration for defending democracy in Latin America. Today we are restoring ties between Brazil and Argentina, said the Labor Party leader.

He also thanked Fernández for his support during his detention as a result of the legal and media war against him.

For her part, Abuelas President Estela de Carlotto said she was proud that Lula was once again ruling a friendly people.

We wish you all the best and that with all your great ideas you succeed in continuing to embrace us with solidarity and love, he said.

Pérez Esquivel, in turn, stressed the importance of unity between the two countries and the entire region to counter existing threats.

Long live the Brotherhood, the Union of Patria Grande and our democracies! We have many challenges ahead and Lula is an example of how people’s struggle, unity and justice always wins, he assured.
