Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has asked the US to suspend military support for Ukraine. The United States must “stop promoting war and start talking about peace,” Lula told reporters during his visit to Beijing today. The European Union must also “start talking about peace”.
In this way, the international community will be able to convince the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and the Ukrainian leader, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, that “peace is in the interest of the whole world”, said the Brazilian leader before continuing his trip from China to the Emirates United Arabs.
Lula arrived yesterday on a state visit to Beijing, Brazil’s main trading partner. The main objective was to strengthen bilateral relations and convey the impression that “Brazil has once again become an important player on the world stage”.
Lula’s comments about Washington’s support for Ukraine are considered sensitive because Lula also wants to strengthen ties with Washington. The first trip abroad in February – a month after taking office – took him to the United States.
