He asserted that the more police you need, the less government you have and that intervention is necessary “in people’s living conditions, in the quality of education, in traffic, in health, in the roads on which people live, in sanitation, live well with everything that society needs.”
With Pronasci, the Labor Party founder is resuming the security program he promoted during his previous two terms (2003-2010), with the aim of reducing violence and increasing the state’s presence in the outskirts of cities.
For the occasion, 270 vehicles of the Maria da Penha patrols were delivered, a service to offer regular preventive support and ensure better protection for women in situations of domestic and family violence.
The government also announced the construction of 40 units of the Women’s Shelter, facilities to support women victims of domestic violence.
In addition to combating violence against women, Pronasci promotes security policies with citizenship, focuses on work and formal and vocational education for prisoners and graduates, supports victims of crime and fights structural racism.
Program coordinator Tamires Sampaio praised the ability of public policy, when articulated, to transform lives.
“I am proud to coordinate a program that understands that security is built through guaranteeing rights, fighting inequality, promoting dignity and empowering armed forces, and through training, equipping and valuing police stations and battalions” , he said .
He recalled that in Brazil a woman is murdered every six hours, where a black man is the target of violence every 23 minutes.
