ammunition
Instead of intensifying wars that will destroy the planet, why not offer diplomatic alternatives? (“Lula rejects Brazilian ammunition shipment to tanks in Ukraine,” Mundo, 1/27).
Leticia Camilo (Campinas, sp)
It’s not really good to provoke the Russians, but the moral dilemma of refusing the victim’s request for help remains. To compensate, the government should strongly condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Telma Saraiva (Campinas, sp)
Lula seems to be living in the past. Those who don’t want to mess with the Russians think the commodity super cycle will return, and with it the glory of the Brics. mirror thing!

national guard
“DF governor criticizes Lula administration’s proposal to create national guard” (Politica, 1/27). But of course you will complain. This is likely to drain the DF’s constitutional fund as the DF’s Prime Minister (the highest paid in the country) will no longer be responsible for guaranteeing the security of the Three Powers. The lawsuit is fear of lack of rich money …
Patricia Floriano Pedrosa (Brazil DF)
Must have Republican National Guard. The defense of democracy cannot be left to good intentions alone. Of course very careful selection of his agents!
Evandro Luis de Carvalho (Rio de Janeiro RJ)
Brasilia as a federal entity makes no sense. The unit is Goias. Brasília is a district by definition. A district that houses the entire structure of the federal government cannot fall under the jurisdiction of others. I hope that they will create the national civil guard through competition, not just for the BSB, but deployed across the country as reinforcements or at the request of the powers that be. I think this is also an opportunity to demilitarize and unify the state police force.
Waldemir by Silva (Salvador BA)
The National Guard was formed in August 1831. It continued through the Second Reign and most of the Old Republic period, and was only demobilized in September 1922 when Brazil celebrated the first centenary of independence. Now, after the bicentenary, the new federal government wants to recreate something that died out 100 years ago. Reclaiming something from the days of the Empire sounds very nostalgic, even if it’s limited to the federal capital and not the whole country.

“A 10yearold girl collects Santa’s DNA to find out if he exists” (Mundo, 1/27). This child will grow up learning that the reality of dreams, desires, and symbols cannot be verified by DNA testing and that not all people perceive them.

Yanomami
Unfortunately, nearly 80 years after the Holocaust, we are seeing a resurgence of Nazilike hatred and intolerance towards minorities, ideological opponents, or simply defenseless peoples, as is happening in Brazil in the case of the Yanomami.
Moses Spiguel (Campinas, sp)
Lula’s voters are truly responsible for ending the Yanomami genocide, which would have continued with Bolsonarism until the last indigenous person died of starvation.
Antonio Beethoven Cunha de Melo (Sao PauloSP)
Interests against Zema
“Lula’s PT and Bolsonaro’s PL unite and force defeat on Zema in MG assembly” (Politics, 1/27). Union of politicians to protect their interests. Consistency that is good, nothing!
Luiz Carlos Silva da Cunha (Pouso Alegre, MG)
Each defeat against Zema equals the victory of the people of Minas.
Walter Janni (Belo Horizonte, MG)
Lucky for the people of Minas Gerais regarding Cemig. We gauchos have our hearts in our hands and wonder what the PSDB will sell after the last state. our souls?
Vera Maria da Costa Dias (Porto Alegre, RS)
Brumadinho
“Valley of Troubles” (Editorial, 1/27). I congratulate Folha on his position on the Brumadinho tragedy in the 1/27/23 issue. In fact, there is a lack of transparency in administrative action when carrying out administrative procedures. In addition, there is a lack of social control in remedying human and environmental damage and in preventing these hecatombs.
Paulo Affonso Leme Machado (Piracicaba, SP)
So add up what it has done to Vale and what it will do to Americanas, the contribution of fuel prices to the composition of inflation to enrich its shareholders, and consider this privatization as an option to have a better country.
Marcelo Magalhaes (Rio de Janeiro RJ)
Personal, entrepreneurial and political interests have so far spoken louder. Human lives are important and must be protected from material actions.
