Lynch reveals Chase Young’s move to 49ers gave locker room a boost – NBC Sports Bay Area

After losing three straight games, the 49ers needed a bounce back. So what do they do?

Go out and trade for star defenseman Chase Young.

49ers general manager John Lynch joined Greg Papa on NBC Sports Bay Area’s “49ers Game Plan” this week, where he was asked if the team needed a boost like trading Young to get back on track come. Lynch believes the 49ers have the ability to create that momentum with the players in-house, but has had conversations with players in the building who couldn’t contain their excitement after the big move.

“I don’t think we needed it,” Lynch told Dad. “I think more importantly, I keep coming back to it, but definitely [says this] during the bye week, ‘What can I do better?’ So I don’t think we needed it, but I have to say, later in the afternoon yesterday when everyone was sorting out, a number of players came up and said, ‘This has the locker room cleaned up, we’re excited.”

“We found ourselves in a crisis, we are not used to that. We have won a number of games in a row and had a difficult period here. If this is going to help everyone…then we’re cautious.” Everyone, Chase is a damn good football player and I think he can add a lot, but that won’t be the magic pill. The magic pill is that we get back to who we are, find our form here and forge our identity. A new team every year.

The 49ers have an abundance of leaders in the locker room and are more than capable of dusting themselves off and staying motivated for the long season ahead.

However, it never hurts to get a boost in the form of another big acquisition, as evidenced by San Francisco’s blockbuster trade of star running back Christian McCaffrey last season.

The trade became official after Young passed his physical exam on Wednesday. The 49ers’ newest pass rusher and his teammates will now get to work during the bye and prepare for their Week 10 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
