The choice of names for the future cabinet of Argentina’s next president, Javier Milei, has increasingly shown the influence of former President Mauricio Macri on the government that takes office on December 10. The local press reveals that the former central bank representative in the Macrista government, Luis “Toto” Caputo, has been invited to the economic department. And that Patricia Bullrich, leader of the PRO (party founded by Macri), will become Minister of Security, a position she already held in the government of the former resident of Casa Rosada.

The reactions of Milei’s first allies already indicate that they are dissatisfied with the decisions. The newspaper La Nación emphasizes that Carlos Rodríguez, the main economic adviser to the future libertarian president, communicated on social media this morning of this Friday (24) his “unwavering decision” to end all economic advisory relationships, formal, actual or perceived, in the Freedom Advances .

“They start asking me why I do this. I haven’t been consulted for months. I had made up my mind a long time ago. “Today is the ideal time since Javier has appointed the Minister of Economy and changed the President of the Central Bank,” he explained.

In addition to Caputo, he referred to the invitation to economist and physicist Demian Reidel to take over the BC, replacing Milei’s previous favorite Emilio Ocampo, who was the biggest supporter of the proposal to dollarize the Argentine economy.

It is the arrival of “Toto” Caputo in economics that has been the most talked about. Macri previously called him the “Messi of finance.” He was Macri’s finance minister and led the BC when the current agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was negotiated. He was apparently fired at the request of former IMF chief Christina Lagarde, who was unhappy with Caputo’s lack of communication and transparency in the negotiations.

Rodríguez’s ouster and the loss of Ocampo were not the only casualties of Milei’s original decisions in his search for a coalition government. Ally Carolina Píparo, one of the first names announced by the new president, will no longer be the future head of the National Social Security Agency (Anses). She was replaced by Osvaldo Giordano, the former economy minister of Juan Schiaretti, the losing candidate of the Justicialist Party.

In an official statement this morning, the office of the presidentelect confirmed Giordano’s election as well as the appointment of engineer Horacio Marin as chairman of the oil company YPF.

The text also stated that the intention to close the central bank was “not a negotiable matter,” but did not mention dollarization.
