Food price inflation in France reached a record high of almost 16% in March. But then inflation dropped to 14%. According to French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maires, the biggest French food groups have pledged to reduce the prices of hundreds of products from July.

Le Maires accused the companies Earning “improper” profits. For him, they should have passed on the fall in energy prices and raw materials for food.
French supermarkets agreed in March to charge the “lowest possible price” for essential groceries. The agreement was therefore extended by a further three months in May.
