Macron under investigation for illegal campaign financing

Macron “under investigation for illegal campaign financing”

The report of the Parisien: The investigations concern the connections between Macron and the company McKinsey, which allegedly secretly financed the 2017 election campaign and which had been assigned consulting services under unclear conditions

PARIS – French President Emmanuel Macron is reportedly under investigation. The news was reported by the newspaper Le Parisien and has not yet been denied by the Elysée.

The inquiry – which would be the first for the French leader – would open in November; the charge of the National Financial Prosecutor (PNF) is favoritism and illegal financing of the election campaign.

The investigation would concern the connections between Emmanuel Macron and the McKinsey company.

Ambiguous circumstances are suspected in the award of some consulting firms to McKinsey, as well as covert financing of the 2017 election campaign by the company.

One of the three investigating judges is Serge Tournaire, who is known to have indicted François Fillon in 2017 for bogus employment of his wife Penelope, and Nicolas Sarkozy in the Bygmalion case.
