“I haven’t slept much and eaten anything for three days, I’m shocked. It wasn’t a theft, it was a surgical procedure. There are too many weird things that don’t add up.” Madalina Ghenea lives excitedly hours after suffering theft at Fiumicino airport. A cabin trolley with thirty treasures, jewels, diamonds and more. Estimated value around one million euros.
What happened?
«I came back from Riyadh, where I had attended an event organized by the renowned Hia magazine. But instead of landing in Milan as planned, I changed my plans 24 hours earlier to accept the Magnifica Award in Rome. Business class travel arranged by Hia on one of the world’s leading airlines with a chauffeured car reserved upon arrival. Not the usual Ncc but a dedicated one in charge of delivering my trolley. I park in a reserved space, far from the taxi area».
Where did the theft take place?
“In an area that is essentially unguarded. The car was parked next to the wall and the car was blocking access for third parties. The car was loaded into the van by the driver at that moment».
Was she surprised?
«No, on the contrary, I kept the trolley under control the whole time, at that moment the driver loaded it into the van. The thief moved calmly, without forcing. Undisturbed”
Has anyone seen it?
“Me and I ran after him screaming, but at an intersection I couldn’t figure out which direction he was going or if an accomplice was waiting for him.”
Why does he say there are quirks?
“I don’t want to blame the driver, maybe he was tired, distracted, but I too have just returned from an 18-hour drive and I never let objects of this value distract me.”

“I called 112 and then some footballers (that’s what they told me) who were there with their families helped me. you were nice They told the driver not to yell at me and directed me to the police station to file a complaint. It was almost closing time and I ran all the way back. There should be video footage.”

«It seems that the car was parked in the only “blind” spot of this clearing where the thief could not have accidentally passed. I have lodged a complaint with the lawyer Ilenja Mehilli and on the advice of the criminologist Roberta Bruzzone, the investigation has begun.”
Are there any other dark spots?
«Prior to my request for a rebooking, the person arranging the trip informed me that someone had attempted to rebook my flight, a rebooking that I had not requested. As if someone had broken into the system on my behalf or wanted to monitor me.
In the past you have denounced an alleged stalker for episodes of various kinds. Are you considering a connection?
“A lot of episodes in about eight years. Strange news, attempts to sabotage my career and my image… I thought of different situations, but if you also put them in line with this theft, you suspect that it’s always the same person».
How do you experience this theft emotionally?
“Very bad. I cried my tears dry. I had to go to Milan to attend my daughter’s concert, which was my favorite date, but I was afraid to get back on the plane or the train and took the Car. I thought, “What if it happens again? And if I caught up with that thief, what would have happened?”.
Do you often travel with items of this value?
«For work, I’m used to constantly traveling in Italy and abroad, and I usually bring clothes, jewellery, bags of well-known brands, etc. with me. In addition to being a brand ambassador for some of them, I have also curated advertising campaigns with my production company. All the brands I work with know my attention and professionalism and trust me because they see the scruples with which I take care of their creations. I was calm, a man was waiting for me at the landing to accompany me, everything was under control. At least I thought so.”
