James, 27, popped the question during a romantic trip to Rome last month – weeks after he rejected Maeva, 30, when she got down on one knee in scenes being filmed for the E4 series.
The couple’s marriage proposal may surprise some Made In Chelsea viewers after James admitted to kissing another girl behind Maeva’s back on Monday’s show, in what he described as a “drunken night” at London nightclub Raffles.

A source close to the couple told MailOnline: “It’s all Maeva ever wanted.
“Ever since she was a young girl she dreamed of getting proposed and last month it finally became a reality when James asked her to marry him in Rome.
“Marriage is the ultimate commitment, now that they are engaged Maeva feels reassured and excited about her future and everything that happened before can be forgiven.”
MailOnline has reached out to Maeva and E4 representatives for comment.

At Made In Chelsea on Monday, James confessed to drunkenly kissing another woman behind Maeva’s back and said he “hated” himself for cheating on her.
James said: “I disrespected our relationship that night, I disrespected you, I threw it all away for a drunk night and I hate myself for it.”
Maeva cried hysterically at the revelation, sobbing, “You were the man, you were the father of my children, I wanted to be with you for the rest of my life.”
Reality star James told Maeva, “I’ve got a f***ing ring,” before the dramatic scene ended with viewers believing the couple had gone their separate ways.
But a source told MailOnline that Maeva James forgave the infidelity and they have since put the past behind them.

Before James’ drunken snogging with another woman, Maeva was humiliated when her boyfriend of three years turned down her marriage proposal.
Maeva got on one knee after getting tired of waiting for James to pop the question, but he told her to “be patient” and that he would cement their relationship.
The couple, who are currently filming in Mallorca for the next series of Made In Chelsea, started dating in 2019 despite James being best friends with Maeva’s ex-boyfriend Miles Nazaire.
Maeva’s relationship with Miles is often the focus of Made In Chelsea storylines, with the former couple admitting they still have feelings for each other.
Miles even cried when Maeva told him she was planning to propose to James and said he still believed they would get together one day.
