Body positivity — and our appetite for seeing the human body in general — has come a long way in recent years, and it’s often been celebrities who have pushed those boundaries, from Kim Kardashian to her Paper Magazine 2014 shoot broke the internet to Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s iconic WAP music video. Industry veteran Madonna confirmed that fact when discussing how her career nearly ended when she showed a “butt cheek” at the 1984 MTV Awards, commenting that it was “the opposite” of what it is today.
The 63-year-old recalled the wardrobe mishap during an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

“I was walking down these very steep wedding cake steps and I got to the bottom and started dancing around and my white stiletto heels fell off,” she said. It looks like it’s choreography, and my dress rides up and my butt is on display .”

The singer added that when she went backstage after her performance, her manager wasn’t pleased and told her her career was over.
“I didn’t even know my buttock was showing,” she said. “It wasn’t even like the whole butt. It was like a buttock, like half a buttock.”
“Those were the days when you shouldn’t show your butt to make a career. Now it’s the other way around,” she joked.
Needless to say, her manager’s predictions were far from accurate. The singer, who has been dubbed the Queen of Pop, has been honored with six Grammies and two Golden Globes and joined Fallon on the show this week to promote her remix album, Finally Enough Love, released to celebrate her 50th Billboard -Chart tips was released.
