The kangaroo check, which the government of the Autonomous Community of Madrid approved in the middle of the election campaign, will benefit families earning 90,000 euros or more, depending on what the SER chain has put forward and which include the basics of the aid. The funding program, endowed with two million euros, envisages a per capita family income of up to 30,000 euros. Since this amount is obtained by dividing the total income of a family by the number of its components, couples with one child who earn up to 90,000 euros and large families with three children who earn up to 150,000 euros are entitled to the aid subsidy . A model that the manager of Isabel Díaz Ayuso has already followed for his controversial scholarships to study non-compulsory education (child, baccalaureate and professional) in purely private centers. In this case with a novelty: the up to 4,000 euros per year of the kangaroo check are distributed “in the order in which the applications are received”, i.e. those who apply for them beforehand have priority over those who have less money. For private center grants, preference is given to applicants with lower incomes.

Eligible are expenses incurred in hiring domestic workers to care for children under 12 or under 18 with disabilities and other dependents with disabilities or dependents residing in the same place of residence “with the aim of reconciling work and family life to facilitate” are intended “. The eligible period is the year prior to the application. The administration has four months to find a solution, and if they don’t respond, the request is deemed rejected, despite Ayuso’s promise during the election campaign that the administration’s silence would have positive repercussions.
With a budget of two million euros, it is foreseeable that this aid will reach at least 500 families, although according to the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment this credit can be expanded, which means that there could be even more funds available. However, not everyone gets the same money. So if you have a per capita income of less than 20,000 euros, you will receive 100 percent of the subsidy (4,000 euros). And if you have a per capita income of between 20,000 and 29,999 euros, you get 60% (2,400 euros).
The Basque Country, Murcia, Extremadura and La Rioja are already implementing similar proposals, according to the Autonomous Community of Madrid. In the case of Madrid, the initiative bears the signature of the Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment, Javier Fernández-Lasquetty, and is expressed by the payment of an amount equal to the social security contributions paid by the employer (with an increase of 25%).
The government did not make this aid public when approving it at the press conference following its Governing Council meeting, and is now justifying it as another measure within Ayuso’s promised package to promote reconciliation of family and work life and encourage fertility.
