Maduro commemorates Hugo Chávez’s election victory in 1998

Caracas, December 6 (Prensa Latina) The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, recalled today the victory of Commander Hugo Chávez (1954-2013) in the presidential elections of December 6, 1998.

24 years ago a new historical stage began in our country, the head of state said on his Twitter account.

He pointed out that the “overwhelming electoral victory of Commander Chávez” put an end to the bipartisanship that had liberated the country for more than 40 years.

“Today we have people power and an inclusive, free and sovereign homeland. Long live Chávez!” wrote the President.

In an audiovisual accompanying the message, he shows images of the Bolivarian leader from back then and is heard saying that “the victory does not belong to Chávez, it belongs to a people”.

I’m hardly a straw pushed away by the revolutionary hurricane, another part of this process, Chávez is a national feeling, it’s a project that has become collective, he stressed.

The commander stressed that “the Venezuelan people have dignity, courage and honor and have shown it today, a day of history,” adding that they will show the world what they are capable of.

Chávez indicated that the Venezuelan people will be kneaded with the tone of the liberators of this continent and demonstrates it again, assuring that December 6 (1998) will be written in the new pages of history.

So let us all be united protagonists of this new history of Venezuela, “how great is the Venezuelan people, glory to the brave people!”, he stressed.
