Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro recalled the beginning of the Bolivarian Revolution during the “International Summit Against Fascism” at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the coup against former Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez.
“As the Puntofijist, oligarchic, elitist model of democracy was exhausted, it gradually took shape depth of the Venezuelan social process the concept of a new participatory and leadership democracy”said Maduro during the meeting, which took place in Caracas from April 11 to 13.
In this way he recalled the emergence of this Venezuelan social process as well as the informational silence of the media – and the “right-wing operations” – during the coup against former Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez on April 11, 2002.
“We must break the hegemony of history and the lies of the West facing the emergence of a multipolar and multicentric world,” Maduro condemned, referring to the media.
The Venezuelan President also criticized Pedro Carmona Estanga, then President of the Federation of Chambers (Fedecamaras) and Venezuela’s de facto President during the 47 hours of the coup. “The self-swearing of Carmona Estanga, a Sibylline figure, very reactionary, very neoliberal, very right, very pro-gringos, pitiyanqui drawn to gringo interests”he voiced.
In this sense, he explained that Carmona Estanga “changed ministers, central bank governors and others commanded all governmentsaccording to the state-owned Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
“Fedecamaras was the dominant opinion of the country’s monetary and economic policies until Hugo Chávez Frías and the Bolivarian Revolution came, where popular power was present.”added the Venezuelan President.
