The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, spoke by telephone this Sunday with the Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to express his support for the “terrible situation” in the Gaza Strip and ordered the delivery of 30 tons of humanitarian aid.
Maduro and Abbas addressed “the terrible situation in the Gaza Strip following Israel’s indiscriminate attacks on civilians,” a statement from the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said.
During the call, Maduro reiterated “Venezuela’s unconditional support for the Palestinian cause and its authority” and offered 30 tons of humanitarian aid to be sent in the coming days as part of a plan to provide “direct and lasting support to the Palestinian people.”
The leaders agreed to “call for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of a humanitarian aid channel for the population, as well as the restoration of international legality.”
They also call on the international community and the United Nations to “take on with strength and courage a role as guarantors” of this legality as the “only” path to peace.
