Maduro worsens crisis in Venezuela and puts Biden in a dilemma

Venezuela's head of state is ignoring the opposition's preferred candidate, Machado. The US government is now under pressure to lift the easing of its embargo on Venezuela. But that would mean: higher fuel prices and more refugees before the US elections.

It's not enough with all the conflicts in the Far and Middle East, Ukraine and the Red Sea. Now Joe Biden has problems again in his backyard in South America. The US government said it would “review” its sanctions policy towards Venezuela.

Nicolás Maduro did it again: for the sixth time, the ruler at the Miraflores Palace decided to let an agreement with the opposition collapse. In October, the government and its opponents on the island of Barbados agreed that this year's presidential elections should be held regularly. In order to motivate the Venezuelan government to this agreement, the US government offered to partially lift the embargo on sales of Venezuelan oil, minerals and gold, but with a repeal.
