MAFS UK’s George hinted at unresolved trauma with April before she entered therapy

Married at First Sight British star George Roberts has hinted that there were traumatic scenes with “wife” April Banbury that weren’t caught on camera.

On Tuesday’s show, viewers saw the pair engage in an explosive argument with Thomas Hartley after he branded them the ‘wrong couple’, leading George to declare, ‘We’ve been through a heck of a lot between us and it there’s a lot of stuff we can’t bring [commitment ceremony] Couch.’

The scenes were filmed earlier this year, before it was revealed the couple have since split and April 33 is now in therapy after the “traumatic” relationship.

It was also revealed that George, 40, was allowed to attend the E4 show despite three of his ex-boyfriends complaining to police about his alleged abusive behaviour.

Tension was brewing between the newlyweds after Monday’s episode, when Thomas called April a “bitch” and a “liar” before saying she was “the wrongest person around,” causing the former beauty queen to burst into tears.

Speaking about the aftermath, April privately told George: “Yesterday was a terrible day.

“People called me wrong because I didn’t talk about our relationship. I don’t think it’s faking me because I don’t want to talk about things.

“Thomas was the one who said our relationship was wrong.”

George was quick to advocate for his partner, sneering: “Well congratulations Thomas, he always does. Thomas is a despicable man and he does not deserve the right to be surrounded by good people.’

When April admitted, “Thomas said he thinks I’d hurt you,” George hit back, “I don’t give a damn what Thomas thinks. Thomas is a disgusting person, just a nasty piece of work.’

Later in the episode, all the couples got together for a dinner party and the subject was brought up again when Thomas explained, “I thought George and April were the wrong couple…”

George interjected, “Fuck my actual life, you have your opinion, that’s fine,” as April reasoned, “You don’t know what’s happening…”

After Thomas insisted, “I know enough,” April replied, “George and I are pretty private people.

“I’m pretty rational, he’s pretty emotional and that’s not a bad thing. I don’t talk to anyone but Whitney about our relationship [Hughes] because I don’t feel like I have to.

“But when we have an argument behind closed doors, we solve it and then we don’t want to rehash it because it’s difficult to go back to that place.”

An angry Thomas replied: “You guys are too protective of each other and not allowing things to actually be resolved,” to which April replied: “We’re going to couch everything. It’s not that we hide everything because we’re not.

Jordan Emmett-Connell then jumped in when he asked: “When you’re on the sofa you hold back a lot and it frustrates us all – how are you shaping up?”

George replied: “We’ve been through a hell of a lot between us and there’s a lot of stuff we can’t get on the couch.”

A perplexed Chanita Stephenson asked: “How much do you have to bring to the couch? What do you mean?!’

George went on to point out the unaired trauma, replying, “We’ve been through a lot…why did you hit us in four weeks now when you could have said something earlier?”

The explosive scenes, which aired after Web, exclusively revealed that April has left her reality TV husband and is now living alone in her luxurious London flat after their on-screen marriage went awry.

She had previously admitted she is in therapy after marrying the divorced father-of-four and was seen in tears on Monday as she tried to put her life back together amid the public fallout.

She proposed splitting up with the estranged girl after three former friends accused her of “abusive,” “obsessive,” and “manipulative” behavior.

Now she’s returned to her £750,000 flat in south London – without ‘husband’ George.

April said she was unable to discuss the coercive behavior allegation against George Roberts when she was approached by Web at her home on Monday.

But she appeared jaded and upset at the aftermath of her failed “marriage,” which saw the couple tie the knot in the UK and then honeymoon in the Caribbean.

The reality star was also seen in tears while running errands near her home, telling a worried passerby: “I’ve been on TV and it’s all gotten to be too much.”

The “weddings” on the show aren’t legally binding, but see the couples make lifelong commitments at a ceremony overseen by a wedding officer.

In an Instagram post Sunday night, April opened up about how she’d sought a break from the reality TV show by dating her male friend Jose Luis.

She wrote: “A free night from MAFS turned into a night of glitz and glam pageant with my Josephina ballerina @josek9999.”

And on Friday, she proposed her fledgling marriage to George in two picture posts on Instagram, with the caption; “How it started vs. how it’s going”.

The first picture showed 2020’s Ms Great Britain snuggled up to a heavily tanned George on a sofa. The second picture showed her looking away while George glared at her angrily.

Over the weekend, April went into more detail about the failure of her relationship with George.

She wrote: “The trauma that this show brought about made me reevaluate things.

“I really have, and I’m not ashamed to say I’ve been seeing a therapist since.”

A Channel 4 spokesman told Web: “The care and safety of the cast members is our priority at all times during this production and we ensure robust care and safety protocols are in place for the cast members.

“Adequate support is available to cast members before, during and after filming and broadcast, including access to our experts and an independent psychologist.”

It recently emerged that George was able to marry a stranger on TV, despite three of his ex-boyfriends complaining to the police about his alleged abusive behavior.

Three women who have had relationships with George recently said they were appalled by his inclusion on the show.

Each of them said they had independently lodged a complaint with the police about George, claiming they were “love bombed” before the relationship was “forced”.

All three said they raised concerns with Channel 4 after seeing Mr Roberts in trailers for the show.

They said they reported his “abusive, “obsessive” and “manipulative” behavior towards women.

A source from the show said they were unaware of the allegations against George before he “married” April on the TV show.

Channel 4 told Web: “We work incredibly closely with our production partners to ensure that all cast members of Married at First Sight UK undergo rigorous background and psychological checks, including the most detailed police checks a production can undertake.

“Allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously by Channel 4.”

A spokesperson for George told The Sun that the TV star denies the allegations and finds them “deeply disturbing”, adding: “[He] does not condone or behave in any way as abusive.

“These allegations have never been brought to his attention, investigated or followed up by the police for good reason as they are simply not true,” they added.
