Major Baseball: Robbie Ray moved to the Giants

The San Francisco Giants acquired left-handed pitcher Robbie Ray on Friday.

To retain the 32-year-old veteran's services, they traded outfielder Mitch Haniger and shooting guard Anthony DeSclafani to the Seattle Mariners.

A sum of money was also offered to the Washington State Club. The latter also dealt with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Mariners tendered infielder Jose Caballero for outfielder Luke Raley.

Going back to Ray, the pitcher was limited to just one game in 2023. He underwent Tommy John surgery last May. He shouldn't be able to return to the mound before Major Baseball's All-Star Game break.

Ray won the Cy Young Trophy in American football in 2021 while wearing the colors of the Toronto Blue Jays. In his career, the man who also worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit Tigers had a record of 74-71 and a 3.96 earned run average.

For Haniger, it's a return to Seattle. He played for the Mariners from 2017 to 2022. The 33-year-old hit six home runs and posted a .209 batting average in his only season in a Giants uniform.
