Staff vigilance allowed authorities to seize drugs and cellphones at the Regional Reception Center, a multi-level federal security facility in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines.

In a press release, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) announced that on May 23 it had seized 67 grams of hashish, 38 grams of cannabis, 26 grams and 53 methamphetamine tablets, 322 grams of tobacco and 13 cell phones with accessories.

The total institutional value of the confiscated items is estimated at $74,550.

CSC has several tools at its disposal to prevent the introduction of drugs into its facilities, such as ion scanners and drug-sniffing dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.

It should be noted that the CSC has established an information line for all federal agencies to enable it to obtain additional information on CSC agency security-related activities.
